An explosive-laden drone of the Houthi group struck northern parts of state-controlled Dhaliya province, the official told Xinhua news agency late Monday.
Three security personnel were killed and two others were injured in the drone strike, the official said.
An ambulance arrived at the bombing site to rescue the wounded soldiers, but they were targeted by Houthi snipers stationed in the area, the official said.
The Houthis, who control large parts of northern Yemen, have yet to comment on the attack.
Since April 2, the warring sides in Yemen have been observing a nationwide ceasefire. But the Houthi group is often accused of violations.
