China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has started a joint military drill near Taiwan. This information has been given by China’s official newspaper Global Times. The newspaper has told that in this drill, Taiwan is being siege from sea to land and also in the air. In the drill, Chinese forces are using everything from J-20 stealth fighter jets to DF-17 hypersonic missiles. Ever since US Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday, China was furious. China considers Taiwan as its part and is calling Pelosi’s visit a violation of sovereignty.
According to Global Times, this maneuver is an extraordinary maneuver in which conventional missiles will pass over Taiwan for the first time. Also, PLA forces will enter Taiwan within 12 nautical miles, or 22 kilometers. In this exercise, the armies will cross the median line and surround Taiwan from all sides. The purpose of the PLA is to take complete control of Taiwan by taking it under pressure. In the exercise launched by the Eastern Theater Command of the PLM on Wednesday by the Navy, Air Force, Rocket Force, Strategic Support Force and Joint Logistic Support Force, Taiwan has been surrounded from all directions. This was informed by issuing a press release on behalf of the command. J-20 fighter jets, H-6K bombers, J-11 fighter jets, Type 052D destroyers as well as Type 056A Corvettes and DF-11 short range ballistic missiles have been deployed. Earlier, early warning aircraft and DF-17 hypersonic missiles have also been included in the exercise.
China said on Wednesday that it would take strong and effective retaliatory measures against the US and Taiwan for violating the one-China policy.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a media briefing here, “We will do what we have said. Please be patient.”
