CWG 2022, Hockey Final: Disappointed by a dismal performance in the final of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Indian men’s hockey coach Graham Reid criticized his players, saying they lacked the energy and skills needed to beat a strong Australia. In the one-sided final, the Indian team had to be content with the silver medal after a humiliating 7-0 defeat.

Australia proved dwarf in every department to the bronze medal winning Indian team in Tokyo Olympics. The bitter memories of the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games were revived in the minds of hockey lovers when the Australian team defeated India 8-0 in the final.

Reed told PTI after the match, “There is a thing called energy and I don’t think we had that today. This can happen sometimes when you play for Australia. But I am disappointed that we didn’t play well at all. We showed ourselves below. He couldn’t do the things we talked about before the match. This is disappointing.

This is Australia’s third win over the Indian team in the finals of these games. The team had earlier also been beaten by Australia in Delhi and Glasgow (2014). Asked about the pressure, Reid said, “The pressure is always on the big stage. It will never go away. Who knows what the history is, it’s hard to predict. I told them that the most important thing is to do our best and the result will come. As I said, we have a long time to go. have to improve.”

The biggest disappointment was of PR Sreejesh, who was participating in his last Commonwealth Games. Had Sreejesh not been ahead of the goal, the margin of defeat would have been more. It was difficult for him to digest this loss. Didn’t win a medal, we lost the gold. It’s disappointing, but reaching the final in a tournament like the Commonwealth Games is a great thing.
