A moderate intensity earthquake struck Afghanistan late on Tuesday night. According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck 89 km south of Faizabad in northeast Afghanistan. Then it was around 2 o’clock in the night according to Indian time.

Panic has spread in the area after the earthquake. According to reports, tremors were also felt in neighboring countries including Pakistan and Uzbekistan. More details are not available yet.The Pakistan Meteorological Department has also given information about the earthquake through a tweet. Several social media users have also posted about the earthquake. Earlier this month, at least 10 people were injured in an earthquake that struck a remote area in eastern Afghanistan. That earthquake was of magnitude 5.1. Earlier in June this year, an earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck the eastern part of the country, in which about a thousand people died.
Images and video clips posted on social media showed several mud houses badly damaged due to the disaster in remote rural areas. In January too, two earthquakes struck rural areas in the western province of Baghi in Afghanistan, killing several people. Hundreds of buildings were also damaged in that earthquake.
