Hockey World Cup 2023: Marc Rainey and Marc Miralles scored two goals each as Spain thrashed a vulnerable Wales 5-1 to register their first Pool D win of the 15th FIH men’s hockey tournament here on Sunday. After starting 0-2 at the hands of India on the same Birsamunda Stadium on the first day i.e. Friday, Spain maintained its challenge with a win. The Spain team will now play its last match against England on January 19 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

Mark René opened Spain’s account by scoring a goal in the 16th minute of the match. Six minutes later, captain Álvaro Iglesias headed in on a fine pass from Marc Miralles to extend Spain’s lead to 2-0 when he headed past Wales goalkeeper Tolly Reynolds Cottrell for a six.
