Indian Wrestlers CWG 2022: The wrestling competition started on the eighth day of the Commonwealth Games and Indian wrestlers were everywhere. He stunned at the Wrestling Arena in Birmingham. On Friday, four Indian wrestlers managed to make it to the finals. Bajrang Poonia and Deepak Poonia made it to the finals in the men’s section, while Sakshi Malik and Anshu Malik secured their place in the women’s section. Bajrang Punia became the first wrestler to win the gold medal among these four wrestlers.

Bajrang Punia won the first gold in wrestling

Bajrang Punia started his quarterfinal bout in the men’s 65kg freestyle with an easy 6-0 victory over Jean Bandeau of Mauritius. Poonia sealed another silver medal for India by defeating England’s George Ram 10-0 in a largely one-sided match in the semi-final bout.

He faced Canada’s Lachlan McLean in the final. The Indian wrestler had to work hard to win the final bout for the first time. He defeated the Canadian wrestler 9-2 in this match. With this win, Poonia put India’s seventh gold medal in the bag.

Sakshi Malik won second gold in wrestling

Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik defeated Cameroonian wrestler Berth Emilien 10-0 in the women’s 62kg freestyle semifinal match. With this victory, the bronze medalist of the 2016 Olympics confirmed her silver medal. In the final, Sakshi competed with Canadian wrestler Ana Gonzalez. In this title bout, the Indian wrestler captured the gold medal by beating the Canadian wrestler. This was the eighth gold medal bagged by India.

Deepak Poonia won the third gold medal from wrestling

Indian wrestler Deepak Poonia defeated New Zealand wrestler Matthew Oxenham 10-0 in his first match of the men’s freestyle 86kg category. Poonia defeated Shegu Kasegbama of Sierra Leone 10-0 in the quarterfinal bout. With this win, Deepak cemented his place in the semi-finals. The Indian wrestler defeated Alexander Moore of Canada 3-1 in the semi-final bout. In the final, he faced Pakistan’s wrestler Mohammad Inam. In the gold medal bout, he defeated Wrestler of Arch Rivals Pakistan 3-0. With this victory, India got three gold medals from wrestling in a single day and it was also the ninth gold medal in its bag.

Anshu Malik won the first medal in wrestling

Indian women’s wrestler Anshu Malik defeated Sri Lankan wrestler Nethmi Poruthotge 10-0 in a time of just over a minute in the women’s 57kg freestyle semifinal bout. Now it was the turn of the final match, there was a gold medal at stake and the Indian wrestler, who was debuting in the Commonwealth Games, was facing Nigeria’s veteran wrestler Odunayo Adikuoro. Anshu Malik lost 4-6 to Nigerian wrestler Edikuoroe in the final. Despite this defeat, she was successful in putting a silver medal in India’s bag. This was India’s first medal in wrestling.
