Sharing the film’s opening day figures, trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter on Saturday, “Limited screens release. [409] and shows, Zwigato scores a sluggish first day… Word of mouth is positive, but needs to convert into footfall over the weekend… Fri 42 lakhs. India Biz (Business).
Zwigato is about a food-delivery boy and his family’s struggle. The Hindustan Times review called it a “compelling story that blends humor with sincerity”. It read: “Look at Zwigato to enjoy the lives of people we don’t give as much credit as we should. It may not be a perfect film but definitely starts a conversation about the flawed system that this service class is in but still very little is being done to fix it.
Kapil, who is the host of his hit comedy show, The Kapil Sharma Show, said he was impressed by the story of Zwigato because of his past experience. “I used to work at Coca-Cola. When we all come to Mumbai for the first time, we do odd jobs here and there. The product was transported in trucks. There were no apps then. But, when Nandita ma’am came to me and told me about the hardships faced by the delivery men, I could relate to that story to a great extent.
The actor said he is curious why Nandita Das wanted to make a film with him. “I asked him, ‘Why me?’ I didn’t know whether to take his reply as a compliment or an insult. He replied, “Even if global star Shah Rukh Khan agreed to do the film, I wouldn’t have taken him, but chose you because you did so much.” Normal face, it can fit anywhere in the crowd’,” he said.
