Malaika and Arbaaz married in 1998. They announced their divorce in March 2016, which was finalized in 2017. While Malaika has found love again in Arjun Kapoor, Arbaaz is dating Italian model-dancer Giorgia Andriani.
Talking about co-parenting and being a single mother at the India Today Conclave 2023, Malaika said, “Co-parenting is always difficult, you are not always on the same page about a lot of things. Especially when you go your separate ways, there’s always something that doesn’t quite fit the picture. But thankfully both Arbaaz and I are better people today, we are better people today. We take pride in the fact that we can co-exist with no love lost, and give our child all the attention he needs, he deserves. We are there for him every step of the way, whether his parents are with him or not. But, we are together as a unit. I think that’s what matters.”
At the event, Malaika also talked about not giving up the ‘Khan’ surname after her divorce. She shared, “I have been told by a lot of people that the biggest mistake I am making is dropping the surname. Everyone said that ‘you have no idea how much a surname is important’. I have a lot of respect for my ex-in-laws and my ex-family. He has given me a lot of love. Just being able to drop that surname and go back to my maiden name, it gave me a sense of self. It made me feel that I can do or achieve anything in life.
Malaika is known for her special dance numbers – Chaiyya Chaiyya (Dil Se), Mahi Ve (Kaante) and Munni Badnaam Hui (Dabangg). He was last seen in the reality show Moving In With Malaika. It streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.
