Beijing: The Chinese authorities have closed the famous Potla Palace in Tibet after some cases of Kovid-19 were reported in the Himalayan region. China is following a strict policy regarding Kovid and under this it is emphasizing on lockdown, regular check-up, segregation and ban on travel etc. Although most other countries have reopened. A notice on the palace’s social media site said that the palace has been closed since Tuesday and the date for its reopening will be announced later. The Potla Palace was once the traditional residence of Tibetan Buddhist leaders.
The economy of Tibet largely depends on tourism and Potla is a very popular destination among tourists. China says that its strict policy has helped in controlling the spread of Kovid. At the same time, many critics, including the World Health Organization, have condemned its impact on the economy and society.
The Potla Palace has been the residence of the Dalai Lama
The Potla Palace is situated atop a red hill located in the northwest part of the city of Lhasa. It is also the largest religious site of Tibetan Buddhism. The entire construction of this palace is done in Tibetan architectural style. This palace was built during the Thubo reign of Tibet by King Songtsankambu for his marriage to Princess Vanchang of the Thang Dynasty. After its reconstruction in the 17th century, it became the residence of the Dalai Lama. This palace has been the center of the political and religious rule of Tibet for a long time.
