Sports Ministry approves financial assistance to 29 swordsmen to participate in Commonwealth Conference

New Delhi: The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) of the Sports Ministry on Thursday approved a revised proposal by the Fencing Association of India (FAI) and approved financial assistance under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme for 10 fencers competing in the Commonwealth, which will be held in London. The Fencing Championship will be held from 9 to 20 August.
The MoC also approved financial assistance for two coaches and two support staff to travel with the team.
In addition, the Sports Authority of India, as part of its international exposure, will bear the expenses of 19 swordsmen undergoing training at various National Centers of Excellence.
Two coaches and one physiotherapist have also been approved to assist under the NCOE exposure head.
